Four Earn VaSID Men's Lacrosse All-State Honors - RIchmond Spiders Athletic

RICHMOND, Va. – Four University of Richmond men's lacrosse student-athletes earned University Division All-State honors from the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Wednesday in Ryan Lanchbury (Burlington, Ontario), Luke Frankeny (Wilmington, N.C.), Ray Baran (Berwyn, Pa.) and Jake Saunders (Oakville, Ontario). The Spiders combined with the University of Virginia to make up all 12 spots on the All-State team.
 
Lanchbury earned All-America honors this season from both USILA and Inside Lacrosse. He finished his Spider career rewriting the record books in career, season and game scoring history. Lanchbury is the all-time leader in points (293), goals (162) and assists (131) in a career.
 
He finished the season with a program-record 81 points, leading the Spiders to their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in eight years. He scored a team-high 40 goals and added 41 assists. His 41 assists set a new single-season record, breaking his own previous mark, while his 40 goals are second most in a single season, trailing only his own season record set in 2019. Lanchbury also owns the program records for games played (70) and games started (69) in a career.
 
Frankeny was a First Team All-Southern Conference selection this season after transferring in this season from Mount St. Mary's. He ranked third on the team and fourth overall in the SoCon in scoring with 34 goals from the midfield. He scored a goal in 15 out of 16 games this season, including 10 different games with multiple goals. He has recorded 113 goals in his collegiate career after posting 79 at Mount St. Mary's.
 
Frankeny was named the SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player, leading the Spiders to their fourth NCAA Tournament in program history. He scored eight goals in the Spiders' two games, notching five against High Point and adding three in the championship game victory over Jacksonville.
 
Baran has been an anchor on the Spiders' defense, helping the team rank second in the conference and eighth in the country in scoring defense at 10.06 per game. He ranks third on the team with 16 caused turnovers and third with 38 ground balls. This marks the second-straight season he has earned All-Conference honors.
 
He has started 52 out of 53 games in his career as a bedrock of the Spiders' defense. He has caused 52 turnovers in his career while picking up 121 ground balls. He has been part of two NCAA Tournament appearances for the Spiders in 2019 and 2022.
 
Saunders was named Honorable Mention All-America by Inside Lacrosse. He started 14 out of 15 games this season on defense, helping the Spiders rank eighth in the nation in scoring defense at 10.06 goals per game. He led the team with 23 caused turnovers, leading the team to a ninth place showing in the country as a team with 9.62 caused turnovers per game. He led the Southern Conference and ranked 27th in the country with 1.53 caused turnovers per game.
 
Saunders ranked second on the team and first among non-faceoff specialists with 33 ground balls. He picked up one of the biggest ground balls of the season in the final minute of regulation in the Southern Conference championship game, sealing the victory over Jacksonville.
 
Virginia swept all four major awards from VaSID. Connor Shellenberger was named Player of the Year for the second-straight season while head coach Lars Tiffany was named the Coach of the Year. Cole Kastner was picked as Defensive Player of the Year and Matthew Nunes was tabbed as Rookie of the Year.
 
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
