Sound On Sound in Bridgeport this weekend: Here's what to know - CTPost

After months of anticipation following its February lineup announcement, Sound On Sound is taking over Seaside Park in Bridgeport this weekend. The two days of music will see the likes of Dave Matthews, Stevie Nicks, The Lumineers and Brandi Carlile play to the crowd lining Long Island Sound.

"Sound On Sound has been a dream that we’ve been working toward for a long time now, so it feels incredible to finally see it all coming to life here in Seaside Park with such an incredible lineup of performers," said Tom Russell, Co-Founder and Partner for Founder's Entertainment, who is putting the festival on. "We look forward to welcoming fans into the fest on Saturday to share this experience with our friends and neighbors here in Connecticut."

Being the first major music festival in Seaside Park since Gathering of the Vibes in 2015, Sound On Sound offers a whole new experience that will certainly yield plenty of questions from festival goers. 

For those attending, or are thinking about purchasing last minute passes, here is what you need to know before you go this weekend.

When does Sound On Sound take place?

Sound On Sound takes place in Seaside Park on Saturday, Sept. 24 and Sunday, Sept. 25. The festival opens daily at 11:45 a.m., and ends at 11 p.m.

Who is playing at Sound On Sound?

Stevie Nicks, Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, The Lumineers, The National, The Roots, The Revivalists, The Head and The Heart, Zach Bryan, Caamp and Funky Dawgz are some of the bands playing this weekend. A full schedule is below.

How do I get my tickets for Sound On Sound?

If you've ordered your passes in the past couple of months, you should have gotten your wristbands already. If you recently purchased a pass, you can pick up your wristband either day of the festival at will call, which is at both gates. Any issues with wristbands can be resolved at will call.

Early will call is available on Sept. 22 for anyone looking to get their wristbands early. Early will call is located at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater and is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. 

Festival passes are still available for purchase as well. 

How do I get to Sound On Sound?

The festival is located at Seaside Park in Bridgeport; 1 Barnum Dyke. Signage will be present to direct attendees where they need to go. 

Those driving into the festival must first purchase a parking pass before their arrival. There is general parking lot, which is a short walking distance away from the festival, as well as parking at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater, which is a 15 minute walk from the festival grounds. There is also ADA parking as well as premium parking, which are both closer to the grounds. Parking lots open at 10:30 a.m.

Parking is available at $75 a day plus fees, or $100 plus fees for two days. Premium parking is still available for Sunday for $100 plus fees. 

A shuttle will be provided at the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater for attendees traveling to the festival from the Port Jefferson Ferry or Bridgeport train station. Both services will have expanded hours during the weekend to accommodate festival goers.

The shuttle costs $10 plus fees per day, or $15 plus fees for both days.

Ride-sharing services can drop attendees off at 115 Broad Street, which is a small walk from the festival's East Entrance. Bike parking is also available at the East Entrance of the festival.

"Public transportation is a great option for getting to and from the festival," Russell said. "The City of Bridgeport has generously expanded their bus services for the festival weekend and are making metered parking throughout the city free for the weekend."

Are there any travel advisories in effect?

The following streets will be closed or contain detours through Monday, Sept. 26:

  • Main Street South of Railroad Avenue
  • Lafayette Street South of South Frontage Road
  • Atlantic Street and Park Avenue
  • Myrtle Avenue South of South Frontage Road
  • Railroad Avenue at Main Street
  • Railroad Avenue at Broad Street
  • Railroad Avenue at Lafayette Street
  • Railroad Avenue at Myrtle Avenue
  • Rennell Street at Atlantic Avenue
  • Walnut Street at Atlantic Street
  • Iranistan Avenue at South Avenue
  • Gregory Street at Iranistan Avenue
  • Gregory Street at Park Avenue
  • Ridge Avenue at Iranistan Avenue
  • Atlantic Street at Iranistan Avenue
  • Barnum Dyke at Atlantic Street

Mayor Joe Ganim's office is advising attendees to prepare for delays, "avoid congested areas of traffic" and take "extra time for parking and transport."

Metered parking will be free throughout Bridgeport this upcoming weekend.

What can't I bring to Sound On Sound? What can I bring?

Sound On Sound has detailed a long list of items not permitted inside the festival grounds, which includes, but is not limited to: weapons, illegal substances, selfie sticks and lawn furniture. 

Small clutch bags (must be smaller than 4.5" by 6.5") are allowed into the festival, as well as medical bags, diaper bags, one gallon freezer bags, CamelBak-styled backpacks (which must be emptied before arriving) and clear, single compartment bags (must be smaller than 12" by 6" by 12".)

Small, soft-back chairs can be brought in but they must stay out of the no-chair zone. Additionally, personal-sized blankets can be brought into the festival.

Empty, reusable water bottles are allowed, and can be filled at water stations inside the festival.

What are the food and drink options at Sound On Sound?

There are a number of predominantly local food options available at the festival including the Little Pub restaurant chain, the Tasty Yolk, Hoodoo Brown BBQ, Thai Jasmine and Connecticut donut chain, Donut Crazy. Other eateries present at the festival represent states like New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and even Florida. A complete list can be found here.

Stratford's Two Roads Brewing Co. will also have a festival-exclusive beer called "Citrus Crush." There will be also other breweries, wineries and adult beverages available for purchase.

Can I bring my child to Sound On Sound?

Children under the age of 5 are allowed to enter the festival for free as long as they are accompanied by a ticketed adult. There will be a playground accessible for children to play in as well as performances by Ramblin' Dan & The Freewheeling Ban, who will perform three sets of music each day in the family area. 

Is Sound On Sound cashless?

Yes, the festival is completely cashless. Festival attendees can register their wristbands and opt-in for the festival's cashless program, which allows attendees to use their wristbands to pay for food and merchandise. 

What is the re-entry policy for Sound On Sound?

GA and GA+ pass holders cannot re-enter the festival if they leave. VIP, Terrace VIP and Platinum pass holders are free to re-enter as many times as necessary.
