Based on the true story of Tim Ballard, "Sound of Freedom" follows a former U.S. government agent who quits his job to rescue dozens of children from global child traffickers. The film is a powerful story of heroism and stands as a testament to the tenacious spirit of those who refuse to let evil triumph.
The latest film from Angel Studios, "Sound of Freedom" hits theaters nationwide the week of July 4th.
Starring actor Jim Caviezel (who fans will recognize from his roles in "The Count of Monte Cristo" and "The Passion of the Christ," told Variety: "I am so proud to be a part of this impactful film. In fact, I'd say this is the second most important film I've done after 'The Passion Of The Christ.'"
Written and directed by Alejandro Monteverde ("Bella") and produced by Eduardo Verástegui ("Unplanned"), also stars Mira Sorvino ("The Final Cut"), and Bill Camp ("12 Years a Slave").
Angel Studios—the studio behind "The Chosen"—acquired worldwide distribution rights to "Sound of Freedom" earlier this year and crowdfunded $5 million for the film's theatrical distribution costs.
"'Sound of Freedom' is respectfully and stunningly filmed, based on real events of undercover heroes bringing hope to many," Neal Harmon, CEO of Angel Studios, told Variety. "This film will keep audiences on the edge of their seats with suspense and encourage all of us to take action."
Because of strong pre-sales, "Sound of Freedom" could become the surprise box office hit of the summer, amongst other films like "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" and "Oppenheimer."
Theaters are already beginning to sell out thanks in part to Angel Studios' innovative pay-it-forward model that allows people to purchase tickets so someone else can see the movie for free. "Sound of Freedom" has already sold nearly 500,000 pre-sale tickets ahead of its July 4 premiere.
More than just an impactful movie, "Sound of Freedom" hopes to be a powerful catalyst for change. The film seeks to spread global awareness and spark important conversations about child trafficking and the heroic effort it requires to end it.
Both the filmmakers and Angel Studios have said that it's the storytellers who are the changemakers. Just like Harriet Beecher Stowe's 1852 novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" contributed to the abolition of slavery in the United States, "Sound of Freedom" hopes to fulfill a similar purpose of telling a story that has the power to compel millions of people to take unprecedented action against this modern-day slavery.
Angel Studios, along with the cast of "Sound of Freedom," is hoping 2 million people will purchase tickets to attend the opening weekend to represent the 2 million trafficked children every year.
"What we need is for Sound of Freedom to be the No. 1 movie in the world the week of July 4th," Harmon told the Washington Examiner. "Because the world will not be able to ignore that message — that's what those children need."
As if the mission of this film isn't clear enough, Jim Caviezel recently told Variety: "this is the second most important film I've ever done after 'The Passion of the Christ.'"
