The Sound of Music: Hear Christopher Plummer's original unused vocals - Entertainment Weekly News

Somewhere in our youth or childhood, we must've done something good...because we can finally hear Christopher Plummer's original vocals for The Sound of Music.

EW has an exclusive first listen to Plummer's track on "Something Good," a song that Richard Rodgers wrote specifically for the film adaptation of his and Oscar Hammerstein II's musical.

Plummer stars in the film as Captain Von Trapp (the original Zaddy), a widowed father of seven children, who learns to open his heart again through the music and ministrations of Fräulein Maria (Julie Andrews), the nun he hires to be a governess to his children.

While filming and recording the soundtrack, Plummer originally recorded his own vocals for the movie, but he was later dubbed by Bill Lee, which is the version of the songs we hear on screen and on the soundtrack.

The Sound of Music Super Deluxe Edition of the soundtrack offers a newly mixed and remastered version of the true entirety of the film's music for the first time, including 40 previously unreleased tracks, the complete film score, unreleased instrumentals, 11 alternate takes, demos, and additional rare vocal recordings from the cast.

Among the previously unreleased songs are "The Little Dears" — a combination of "I Have Confidence" and "My Favorite Things" — and "New Governess," which wasn't used in the film.

"You will hear what you've heard before, famous songs with the mellifluous tones of Dame Julie Andrews leading the way," writes writer and preservationist Mike Matessino in an included essay. "But the experience has been transformed beyond what the 1965 soundtrack album offered — with extensions to the songs, a brilliantly arranged underscore, and even some segments not used in the completed version of the film."

The Super Deluxe Edition, which includes a 4-CD/1-Blu-Ray Audio box set and digital version, is available Dec. 1. Other formats will also be available. But fans can hear Plummer's rare vocals now, above.
