'Star Trek: Picard,' 'Lower Decks' And 'Strange New Worlds' Nominated By Sound Editing And VFX Guilds - TrekMovie

The latest awards season update for Star Trek comes from two big Hollywood guilds: the Motion Picture Sound Editors and the Visual Effects Society. Both have nominated Star Trek shows for their awards this year.

Picard and Lower Decks up for Golden Reels

The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) today announces nominees for the 71st Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards. According to the MPSE the nominees “represent the work of the world’s most talented sound artists and their contributions to the past year’s most outstanding feature film, television, animation, computer entertainment, and student productions.”

Star Trek: Picard was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Broadcast Long Form Effects / Foley for the season 3 finale episode “The Last Generation.” Also nominated were Ahsoka, All the Light We Cannot See, The Continental: From the World of John Wick, Loki, and The Last of Us.

This is the third Golden Reel nomination for Picard. In 2021 it won in this category for the season 1 finale “Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2.”

From “The Last Generation” (Paramount+)

Star Trek: Lower Decks was nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Broadcast Animation for the season 4 finale “Old Friends, New Planets.” The show is going up against Rick and Morty, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Star Wars: Visions, Transformers: Earthspark, and Young Jedi Adventures.

The team nominated for Lower Decks:

Supervising Sound Editor: James Lucero
Sound Effects Editors: Mak Kellerman, John Wynn
Foley Editor: Michael Britt

This is the second nomination for Lower Decks for this award.

The 71st Annual MPSE Golden Reel Awards will take place on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles.

Strange New Worlds nominated by VES

The Visual Effects Society (VES) announced nominees for the 22nd Annual VES Awards, which “recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in features, animation, television, commercials and video games and the VFX Supervisors, VFX Producers and hands-on Artists who bring this work to life.”

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was nominated for Outstanding Created Environment in an Episode, Commercial, Game Cinematic or Real-time Project for the season 2 premiere episode “The Broken Circle. Also nominated are: Loki and The Last of Us (for 2 episodes).

This is the first VES Award nomination for Strange New Worlds. It is the second Paramount+ original Star Trek series to be nominated by the VES. Discovery has 3 VES Awards nominations.

The VES Awards will be presented on February 21, 2024 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

More awards season…

There are still a few more awards that could see Star Trek nominations coming up including more guild awards. The franchise is set to dominate the Saturn Awards coming on February 4, with a total of 15 nominations for PicardLower Decks, and Strange New Worlds.
