The Fantastic Four's Daughter Just Built Marvel's Greatest Invention - Screen Rant

Spoiler warning for Fantastic Four #25!

The Fantastic Four have created their greatest invention yet - and Mister Fantastic had nothing to do with it. Marvel Comics' first family has a brisk output of world-shaking innovations, from the space shuttle that gave them their powers to the "unstable molecules" that keep Marvel superhero costumes basically everything-proof. But in the new issue Fantastic Four, another genius in the family comes up with a device that will change everything for the team.

Fantastic Four #25 is an extra-large anniversary issue with a main story written by Dan Slott with art by R.B. Silvia, color by Jesus Aburtov, and lettering from Joe Caramagna. The tale pulls plot threads together from the past two years of Slott's tenure on the series along with new elements that foreshadow the dangers ahead for the spacefaring heroes.

The issue centers around a mysterious alien hunting a secret power located somewhere on Earth. While it stalks the planet, each FF member is separated and enjoying some personal time. The Thing is homeschooling his new adopted kids; Johnny Storm is trying to connect with Reed and Sue's troubled teenage son Franklin; Sue Storm, unknown to the others, is on a secret spy mission. Meanwhile Reed watches his brilliant daughter Valeria Richards work in the lab. Valeria has combined teleportation and space-warping technology from every faction the Fantastic Four have encountered recently, including Kree projection and the X-Men's Krakoan teleport gates. Reed praises that she's created something remarkable, but without a way to power it. But the aforementioned alien solves that problem, cracking open Reed Richards' bottled sample of the energy of the Big Bang. Both Reed and Doctor Doom are at a loss for how to stop it from doing what Big Bangs do and making a new universe on top of the current one.

Then Valeria deploys her invention. The power-hungry machine absorbs and stabilizes the energy, using it to form a cosmic portal. Doom identifies what the prodigy has created: "A doorway to every point in space and time - a Forever Gate!" Naturally, the gate's creator is thrilled, but her dad is more concerned with the consequences. As he points out, she's made "the most sought-after object in the universe." It can't be moved or turned off, so while the FF can now go anywhere and anywhen in all existence, they also need to defend their home from anyone seeking the device.

This issue marks a major shift in the Fantastic Four's lives. It pushes every family member's new status: Sue as superspy, Grimm as doting father, Franklin's loss of identity, and now Reed, who's playing damage control for his even smarter daughter. This blows the possibilities for future FF stories wide open. Marvel previews show that the Forever Gate doesn't just open out, but lets things from all over the multiverse in, which is a huge problem for the Four's neighborhood in Manhattan, let alone the rest of the planet. With the Ultimate Nullifier returning, the Forever Gate might get blown up before its creator even gets to use it.
