AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 1 University of Texas Men's Swimming team swept four events to highlight Thursday's second day of the Big 12 Championship at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Texas enters Friday's third day of action with 322 points and is followed in the team standings by West Virginia (237) and TCU (187).

Freshman Carson Foster won the title in the 200-yard individual medley in a Big 12 Championship meet record time of 1:41.46, topping the previous mark (1:41.67) set by former Longhorn Will Licon in 2015. Freshman Coby Carrozza earned a hard-fought victory in the 500-yard freestyle (4:14.98), as he touched the wall just .02 faster than junior teammate Drew Kibler (4:15.00).

Junior Daniel Krueger claimed the title in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 19.10, the seventh-fastest time in the country this season. The quartet of senior Chris Staka, sophomore Caspar Corbeau, senior Alvin Jiang and Krueger closed out Thursday's action with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay in a Big 12 Championship meet record time of 3:02.11, the fastest time in the nation this season.

Meet Highlights

  • Texas swept the top four spots in the 500-yard freestyle to begin Thursday's finals with the top three finishers touching the wall within 0.06 seconds of each other. Freshman Coby Carrozza claimed the title in a time of 4:14.98 and was followed by junior Drew Kibler (4:15.00), senior JohnThomas Larson (4:15.04) and freshman David Johnston Jr. (4:16.63).
  • UT had the top four finishers in the 200-yard individual medley. Carson Foster earned the win and set the Big 12 Championship meet record with a time of 1:41.46. This eclipsed the previous mark of 1:41.67 set by Will Licon (Texas) in 2015. It also marked the third-fastest time in the country this season. Sophomore Jake Foster took second (1:43.43) and was followed by junior Andrew Koustik (1:44.78) and sophomore Caspar Corbeau (1:45.16).
  • Texas claimed the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle. Junior Daniel Krueger took the title in a time of 19.10 and was followed by senior Luke Bowman in second (19.67) and freshman Zac Van Zandt in third (19.71). Senior Jake Sannem placed sixth (20.14). Krueger's performance marked the seventh-fastest time in the country this season.
  • The Texas 'A' team of senior Chris Staka, sophomore Caspar Corbeau, senior Alvin Jiang and junior Daniel Krueger earned the win in the 400-yard medley relay in a Big 12 Championship meet record time of 3:02.11. It broke the previous mark of 3:04.13 set by UT's quartet of Staka, Charlie Scheinfeld, Jiang and Krueger in 2020. The performance also marked the fastest time in the nation this season.

The Longhorns resume competition at the Big 12 Conference Swimming Championships on Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Prelims start at 9 a.m. CT, and the finals sessions are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT on both days.

All finals sessions will be streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. Due to health and safety protocols, the event is closed to the public.
