CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Four members of the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced today, July 30. Earning the honor for the Eagles were seniors Ty Celone (Long Sault, Ontario, Canada-St Joseph's Catholic), Cougar Collins (Caledon, Ontario, Canada-Mayfield Secondary), and Tyler Rayman (Otsego, Mich.-Otsego), and redshirt junior Zack Mason (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Blyth Academy Lawrence Park).
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 40-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Just last week, the program earned President's Special Recognition from the GCAA. The squad was recognized for having a 3.57 grade point average over the fall and winter semesters. With EMU's team GPA being above 3.5, they were among 41 other Division I schools that received the President's Special Recognition.
The team garnered success on the course as well as in the classroom, posting a 2020-21 season average of 298.88. Overall, Eastern Michigan finished in the top-five at a trio of tournaments this season, including a fourth-place showing at the GCU Invitational, March 15-16.
