DAYTON, Ohio – DePaul women's volleyball closed out competition at the Tru By Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational on Saturday evening with a 3-1 (23-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-27) setback to hosts Wright State.

Despite dropping the first two sets, DePaul (3-3) battled back to take the third set 25-20 and later endured a lengthy stoppage in the fourth set but couldn't complete the comeback against the Raiders.

Three Blue Demons recorded double-digit kills in the match paced by a career-high 11 kills from Hanna Karl. Jill Pressly also put down 11 kills to go along with 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season in six matches. Donna Brown was a dominant presence at the net with 10 kills paired with four blocks.

Rachel Krasowski recorded double-digit digs for a 16th consecutive match with a match-high 24 digs. Ashley Cudiamat matched her career-high with 27 assists while fellow freshman Aly Kindelberger recorded a career-high eight kills, including six in the third set, at a .467 clip to go along with three blocks.

Wright State's Celia Powers led the way with 15 kills. The Raiders posted 13.5 blocks to DePaul's seven.

Set One: The first set was a back-and-forth affair with each squad within an arm's distance of each other. The Raiders were the first to reach 15, with right side Callie Martin leading the way with three early kills. Out of the media timeout, a Meredith Wallace kill and a Raiders miscue gave DePaul a 16-15 lead. The Blue Demons went on a 3-0 run behind kills from Brown, Karl and Price to take a 20-18 lead and force a Raiders timeout. Out of the break, Wright State won three of the next four points to retake the lead. Pressly ripped a kill down the line to knot the set at 22 before the Raiders won three out of next four points to claim the set, 25-23.

Set Two: The second set started much like the first with both teams trading points to 10 apiece. After the media timeout, the Raiders won the next four of five points to take a 19-14 lead. The Blue Demons went on a 4-0 run to come within one at 19-18 to force a Wright State timeout. A trio of errors allowed the Raiders to pull ahead 23-20 and eventually take the set and a 2-0 match lead.

Set Three: DePaul wasn't going away easily, taking an early 13-9 lead and forcing a Raiders timeout. Bailey Nelson provided the park in the third with three kills early on. Wright State embarked on a 5-1 run to tie the match at 15 apiece heading into the media timeout. Consecutive kills from Pressly put the Blue Demons back out in front. Kindelberger came alive in the middle in third set with six kills and the Blue Demons turned in a gritty performance  to force a fourth set with a 25-20 victory.

Set Four: Wright State jumped out to a 13-9 lead that later ballooned to 17-10 before the Blue Demons stormed back to close the deficit at 22-20. A long officials delay halted DePaul's momentum, but the Blue Demons never gave up. Donna Brown's ninth kill of the match tied the set at 23 apiece. DePaul later staved off a Wright State match point thanks to a stuff block from Brown and Lee. Brown's 10th kill gave the Blue Demons set point, but the host Raiders won the next three points to take the match.

From Head Coach Marie Zidek: "Proud of the way we battled and responded in tonights match. The amount of hustle and fire in this group creates opportunities for us to win, we just werent able to close it out against a seasoned and experienced Wright State squad. We will use these games today to build off of so when the next similar situation arises, we know how to push through it."

Up Next: DePaul returns to Lincoln Park and McGrath-Phillips Arena for the DePaul Invitational, Sept. 10-11. The Blue Demons welcome Penn, Akron and Oakland for a round-robin tournament. DePaul will face Akron on Friday at 7 p.m. before facing Penn at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Alumni Day will be celebrated prior to the 7 p.m. match against Oakland.
