‘Nobody is listening’
Mr. Hogan, you may as well as just stop trying to get people vaccinated (against COVID-19). The county health director and chief medical officer at the hospital (McLaren Lapeer Region) all say to get vaccinated and wear masks in crowded indoor settings, and yet this county has a pathetically low vaccination rate. Nobody is listening. The remaining people have made a choice and will likely never get vaccinated.

Vaccinate rate ‘embarrassing’
Unless a whole lot more Lapeer County residents get vaccinated COVID will be in the community right through winter again. Back with quarantines and probably virtual learning again because people refuse to get the shot.
The vaccination rate here is embarrassing, but it’s not shocking knowing the political affiliation of people in Lapeer County.

Don’t complain later!
Fine, don’t get a shot. But don’t complain when you or your kids are in the hospital fighting to breathe. You’ve made your selfish choice. Who cares if others get sick or die, right?

‘Slow the fourth surge’
There’s no time like the present. Get vaccinated people, and slow the fourth surge in Lapeer County. Please, I’m 80 and it matters when I go shopping for groceries at Kroger if you’re vaccinated or not.

Get on same page
I’m confused, and dismayed. The county (Lapeer County) health department recommends face masks in the schools, but school leaders refuse (other than on buses). Sounds like a recipe for a return to virtual learning all over again, and that was a disaster for my children, so I hope people get on the same page with this mess.

A salute for restoration of Huey at Post 4139
Thanks, Mr. Lossing for fixing up our Huey at the post (VFW Post 4139 in Mayfield Township). The old bird has needed help for many years. You’re a good man to take on the job, and thank you for your service in Afghanistan.

Kudos to student advocates for veterans in Thumb region
I would like to thank the Veterans Esteem Team for honoring veterans in Sanilac and Lapeer counties. These kids have done more than most adults to recognize the service of military people in our communities.

‘Onward and upward’
The E.T. White is gone, and the fire (June 5 fire in downtown Lapeer) site is just about all cleaned up. Onward and upward.

Appreciate event notice
Thank you for putting a notice in the paper about our upcoming flea market (Sept. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church) in North Branch. We appreciate your help to get the word out.

Prayers for Afghanistan
Remember the people of Afghanistan in your prayers. They’re going to need them with the Taliban back in control.

‘Tired of the excuses’
DTE Energy needs to do more than trim trees. This company has some seriously old equipment on the poles near us that needs to be updated or replaced, or better yet put underground so storms don’t keep causing huge outages. I’m tired of the excuses. Three outages in two years is ridiculous.

Tell us what you think
Michigan’s final summer days have been warmer than normal, but in a few months the state could be in a “Season of Shivers,” the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts. The season could mean “positively bone-chilling, below-average temperatures across most of the United States,” almanac officials wrote on the publication’s website. Does the Old Farmer’s Almanac prediction mean anything to you? Do you make any plans as result of its prediction?
