Inman football has dominant start to the season with four shutouts - CatchItKansas

WICHITA, Kan. (Catch it Kansas) - Inman football has steadily improved it’s winning record over the last four years. This year, the Tuetons are off to a 4-0 start. More impressively, they have not allowed any point to be scored on them so far this season.

“We’ve had some really talented kids. We’ve had some really talented kids come through, we’ve had some stability with our coaching staff, that’s been huge,” said Inman head football coach Lance Sawyer.

Sawyer said the returning experience and dedication to the weight room has been the difference maker for them this season.

“We’ve really focused on getting the kids into the weight room. They’ve made some tremendous strides in the last four years,” mentioned Sawyer.

Senior inside linebacker and running back Kyler Konrade added, “Looking back, we weren’t very strong and not too long ago we went 0-9. So, we’ve just stayed consistent in the weight room during the summer and throughout the year.”

The Tuetons have scored nearly 250 points in four games this season and haven’t given up a single point to an opponent. They’re boasting four straight shutout games.

“We’re playing really well. I feel like we’re in mid-season form as we should be,” said senior quarterback Jace Doerksen. “Our defense in flying around, making plays. Our line is doing a great job, we’re all just kind of meshing together.”

“Our defensive coach does a tremendous job with our defense. I think the biggest thing he preaches is to play fast. We’ve simplified things down, the kids are just being athletes out there,” said Sawyer. “They’re just flying around, making tackles.”

With the increased strength coming back this year and most of the players with two or three years of starting experience, speed makes this Inman team even harder to beat.

“We have a lot of guys who made the state track meet last year. I think we’re strong and fast,” said Doerksen.

Sawyer commented, “We have guys that were on the state 4xx4 team, the state 4x1 team and they’re surrounded.”

Getting knocked out in the state semifinals last year, the Tuetons hope they can put all the pieces together to win a 1A state championship this year.
