The ministère des Transports (MTQ) informs you that sound surveys are underway in your area as part of the Turcot project. Surveys will be conducted until fall 2021.
Sound survey procedure
Nearly 150 short- and long-term sound surveys are planned to check whether the noise levels stated in the environmental order are complied with and to confirm the effectiveness of the mitigation measures.
To do so, sound surveys are conducted by MTQ and Séti Média representatives on various private and public lands in the area. On private lands, surveys are conducted in front of or behind (balcony accessible by exterior stairs) buildings. The required equipment (1 sound level metre, 1 microphone and 1 tripod) needs an area of about 1 m2 and remains in place for 1 to 3 hours. On public lands, the equipment is installed on poles and lampposts for 10 to 20 days.
Background
In accordance with Environmental Order 890-2010, the MTQ, as part of the Turcot project, had to develop mitigation measures to make sure that noise levels from the road infrastructure did not increase near residential properties compared to noise levels before the project. Noise barriers were installed in areas where the project would have caused increased noise levels.
Schedule
Acoustic monitoring will have to be conducted 1, 5 and 10 years after the structures have become fully operational, making it possible to check whether noise levels from the freeway infrastructure have increased compared to the levels before the project. Adjustments will have to be made if noise levels increase.
Acoustic monitoring reports will be sent to the ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MELCC), as provided for by the order. The reports will be available on the MELCC website.
